“Dump Your Drugs” (DYD), a program started in 2009 to combat prescription drug abuse in Midland County. It is a joint effort between The Community Alliance 4 Youth Success (Coalition), Midland City Police and Midland County Sheriff departments.

DumpYourDrugsDump Your Drugs events are held throughout the year at vari locations in Midland County. The events range from 2 to 4 hours in length and are manned with representative officers from the city and county as well as members of the Community Alliance 4 Youth Success.

In addition to DYD events, in 2011 Midland County Sheriff’s office placed a secure drug drop box in the main hall of the Law Enforcement Center. This drop box is accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week, through the public entrance at 2727 Rodd St.

In 2009 and 2010, before the drop box, DYD events collected a total of 1,270 pounds of unused/expired medications in these two years. From 2011 through Sept. 2016, the drop box and the DYD events combined, a total of 16,246 pounds has been collected. The amount of medications brought in for proper disposal continues to rise.
